Cummings relocated to Los Angeles in 2004, was a cast member for MTV in the show Punk'd and also appeared in the low-budget drama EMR. She began performing stand-up in 2004. Cummings appeared on the list of Comedy's top 10 performers to watch by Variety in 2007. Last Comic Standing auditioned her in San Francisco in 2008. However, she did not make it through.
